Notre Dame College President J. Michael Pressimone, Ed.D., will serve as a celebrity judge to help select the winner of South Euclid’s 2021 Rock the Block karaoke contest on Saturday, August 21.

The exact time of the competition, in which people sing to popular songs, is yet to be announced. The city’s two-day celebration takes place on Friday, August 20, from 6-10 p.m. and Saturday, August 21, from 2-10 p.m., both at St. John Lutheran Church, 4386 Mayfield Road.

A tradition at Rock the Block is to feature the winners of an annual karaoke contest that takes at Black Forest, a tavern in South Euclid. On Saturday afternoon the three finalists from the summer competition will compete for a $1,000 cash prize.

Pressimone is an accomplished singer and musician. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in addition to his Master of Arts in Leadership in Higher Education from Regis University in Denver, Colo., and a doctorate in Higher Education and Organizational Change from Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.

A baritone, who also plays guitar, Pressimone previously has performed for faculty, staff and students at campus activities.

The president also recently appeared on stage in a production of “Amélie,” based on the five-time Oscar®-nominated French film turned Broadway musical. The performances in Regina Auditorium on the College campus represented a collaboration between Notre Dame Performing Arts Programs and Mercury Theatre Company.

Pressimone appeared as Raymond Dufayel, a reclusive neighbor who lives in the lead character Amélie’s building.

Notre Dame is among the largest employer in its college town of South Euclid in Northeast Ohio and partners with the city on several programs, including a community garden, service activities, and concert series, among others.

This is the sixth year for the Rock the Block event and the first time it will be two days of music, food and children’s activities. The celebration also will feature a beer garden, small business vendors and more. Details about the event are on Cleveland.com and SERockTheBlock.com
