Notre Dame College has announced that Mary Jo Levand will be the new director of its Academic Support Center for Students with Learning Differences (ASC).
Levand has worked as an instructional advisor at the College since 2012. She began her career at the ASC part-time working as a business tutor focusing on accounting courses and subsequently expanding into all math-based business courses. Over time, she moved into a more permanent role of instructional advisor while helping to manage the day-to-day operations of the center.
She succeeds Jessica Kaluga who left Notre Dame after serving in the ASC since 2012 and as its director since 2016.
Levand earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from John Carroll University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She began her accounting career as an auditor at Ernst and Young in Cleveland where she became a part of the healthcare audit committee and served as one of the first computer auditors in the industry.
After four years, she transitioned into the private sector as Chief Financial Officer of Innova Medical Services, the first hospital-owned physician services in the Cleveland area.
She has worked as a private consultant in the healthcare industry with Advantage Consulting and also with a local CPA firm helping start-up businesses with their accounting needs.
Levand has held multiple positions on educational boards and has been a contributing member of multiple nonprofit organizations. She has headed multiple fundraising events raising for local schools and charities.
Since its founding in 2005, Notre Dame’s ASC has become a signature program of the College and a nationally recognized center of excellence among programs at the postsecondary level that specialize in providing services beyond what is required by law to students with learning disabilities. The program at Notre Dame is designed for students with documented learning differences who are capable of performing college work, graduating and moving on to successful lives and careers.
Levand is only the third director in the history of Notre Dame’s ASC. The first and founding director was Gretchen Noetzel Walsh who served from 2005 to 2016.
