Notre Dame College is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Canty, a leader in strategic growth initiatives, as a new member of its Board of Trustees.

Canty is the owner, president and CEO of Alloy Precision Technologies. The manufacturing company headquartered in Cleveland was established more than 80 years ago and produces custom-engineered products for various industrial markets. He has more than 40 years of experience in manufacturing and distribution across a wide variety of industries. In addition to his business background in leading private companies in strategic growth, he is known for his work with business start-ups and turn-around ventures.

He deals extensively with a wide variety of public issues focusing on business development, job creation, the regulatory environment and educational issues.

Canty has served on various boards, commissions and councils over the years at the local, state and federal level, including the National Small Business Association and U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. He has worked with Millikin University, a small private undergraduate college, in Decatur, Ill, and Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio, Ohio.  He was a member of the Governor’s Small Business Advisory Council in Columbus for over 6 years.

In Northeast Ohio, Canty is a Board member of the Council of Small Enterprises’ Health & Wellness Insurance Trust, and MAGNET (the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network), former Board member of Cuyahoga Community College and COSE, and involved with the Greater Cleveland Partnership.

His passion for public service includes elected office. He served on Council, and then as mayor of Bentleyville, Ohio, his home community, for eight years.

Canty also supports continuous education. He taught marketing and business management courses for Ashland College at the penitentiary in Mansfield, Ohio, for several years. In addition, Michael often speaks to college classes on business and entrepreneurship issues.

He has traveled extensively for both business and pleasure throughout the U.S. and to more than 40 other countries, and has served on a few private, small company boards over the years.

Canty earned a B.A. in political science and an M.B.A. in marketing and finance.  He was born in California, raised in Illinois and lived in Oregon for about nine years before becoming a resident of Northeast Ohio in 1982.  He is married to Michele, a Cleveland native, and has a daughter named Alexis, a graduate of Ohio State University.
