Notre Dame College will mark 100 years of academic excellence with a celebration of the College’s official birthday with a centennial opening birthday bash.

Current students, alumni, faculty and staff, and community are invited to attend this free event on Sunday, September 18, from 1-4 p.m. on the Administration Building lawn.

In addition to food, live music, and children’s activities, several commemorative events will take place throughout the afternoon.

The College Administration Building, which has already been designated as a National Historic Landmark, will receive an official designation as a historic landmark in the City of South Euclid. Staff and students will also be facilitating a ceremonial reveal of a time capsule from Notre Dame’s 75th anniversary.

Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to several mini-lectures from distinguished Notre Dame faculty, with topics ranging from the history of the college to tips on finding authentic happiness in today’s world.

  • Karita Ivancic, SND, D.Min., retiring associate professor of theology, will demonstrate “What It Means to Be a Good Person.”
  • Louise Prochaska, Ph.D., a 1964 graduate and professor emerita of theology and women’s studies, will present “20 Minutes to Authentic Happiness.”
  • Eileen Quinlan, SND, Ph.D., a 1974 alumna of the College and professor emerita of English, will discuss “The History of Notre Dame College and the Sisters of Notre Dame.”
  • Roz Scheer-McLeod, M.A., associate professor of health science, and Mary Lou Currivan, M.A., retired associate dean of academic programs, will share their stories and encourage others to offer memories in “Reminisce with Roz and Mary Lou.”

Additional attractions include a live falcon from Lake MetroParks FarmParks from 2-3 p.m.; free water color kits from the Cleveland Museum of Art; a treasure hunt, games for youth and a caricature artist, and a live performance from Billy Likes Soda, a Cleveland-area genre and decade-spanning pop cover band.

Student ambassadors will also be offering walking tours of the campus and Administration Building. The Centennial theme, “Beyond 100: Mission, Vision, Transformation,” is a nod to how Notre Dame will continue the legacy they have built.

This milestone achievement includes a long-term plan to address major academic initiatives, capital projects, endowment, annual giving, building maintenance, and more.

Additional Centennial events will take place through September 2023; for more information, visit Notre Dame’s Centennial page. Medical Mutual is the presenting sponsor for the celebration.
