Notre Dame College is one of only 14 sites in Cuyahoga County offering free tax preparation assistance this year.

The College had provided the service for low-income county residents on campus for 11 straight years prior to the pandemic. This marks the 12th year overall. Notre Dame is one of only two facilities on the far East Side of the county offering the support in 2022.

The students file taxes for around 250 people each year, with the assistance of community volunteers.

Accounting majors at the College who have received training from and are certified by the IRS operate the free center on campus, voluntarily filing federal and state income tax forms for eligible individuals and families. Students who work at the tax site have the opportunity to earn internship credits for their service.

With COVID-19 concerns lingering, the tax center in Regina Hall on the College campus continues to take precautions. Masks are required for clients and volunteers in the facility. Most assistance is provided via drop-off, with clients waiting for their returns in a separate location or returning at a designated time to pick up their completed forms. In addition, the site is cleaned every day at scheduled, periodic intervals.

Clients must make an appointment to have their taxes prepared at the center by calling United Way’s 2-1-1 First Call for Help, which is a nationwide phone number to dial for assistance with health and human services. Capacity limits at the site are dictated by the number of students offering their services.

To be eligible for the free service, taxpayers must have a qualifying income that ranges based on household size. The assistance also is available to members of the College and extended community who qualify.

Participants must bring a current photo identification; Social Security cards for each adult and child listed on the return; all tax documents, including sources of income like W-2 and 1099 forms, for the filing year; support for any deductions and credits sought; health care verification; the prior year’s tax returns; and bank account and routing numbers to arrange direct deposit of any refund. Those filing jointly both must be present for forms to be processed electronically.

Notre Dame is located at 4545 College Road in South Euclid. The campus entrance is 1875 South Green Road.
