Notre Dame College Abrahamic Center continues its fall 2022 “Make a Difference” lecture series with a presentation on shared beliefs from an interfaith perspective.

Sr. Karita Ivancic, SND, ’71, D.Min., retired associate professor of theology at the College, will speak to one of the ultimate questions, “What is a good person?” on Tuesday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Regina Auditorium. Ivancic will discuss how different religious traditions use various language and scriptures to express shared beliefs and commitments. She will touch upon Buddhism, Christianity, Daoism, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism.

The event is free and open to the public.

“As we all listen to the news, we recognize the larger civic community is looking for ways to build and strengthen the fabric of American society these days. People are looking for a way to believe in each other and re-create a sense of care for the common good,” said Sr. Carol Ziegler, SND, Ph.D., executive director of the Abrahamic Center at Notre Dame.

“I am truly excited about the Notre Dame College Abrahamic Center Making a Difference Series,” Ziegler added. “Be inspired to consider ways that you can make a difference in the lives of others as you listen to these speakers.”

Ivancic, who has coordinated the College’s Eleanor Malburg Eastern Churches Seminar, is co-author of the book Ultimate Questions: How Major Religions Respond with Sr. Kathleen Glavich, SND, a 1972 alumna of Notre Dame. Their text raises questions about the origin, purpose and destiny of human beings, including what it means to be good. The authors share responses from the world’s main religious traditions, answers that usually blend divine revelation with human experience.

She and other Notre Dame faculty have used the book to teach TH 150: Living the Ultimate Questions course at the College. She has been selected to present the chapters on God and suffering as two different Notre Damea President’s Lectures.

The book will be available for purchase at the lecture. It also can be acquired online at https://anselmacademic.org/product/ultimate-questions.
