Notre Dame College has accumulated its highest rating ever among Mountain East Conference (MEC) competitors.

The College’s sports teams finished second out of the 12 institutions in the MEC Commissioner’s Cup standings for the 2020-2021 season with 101 points and an all-sports rating of 0.72662. The rankings recognize overall athletic excellence among the conference’s members.

“I am so proud of our Falcon student-athletes, coaches and athletic staff for our second-place finish. Finishing higher than 10 other institutions is a great accomplishment,” said Notre Dame Director of Athletics Scott Swain.

The Falcons had an incredibly successful season in MEC play, which did not start for any sport until January.

  • Women’s lacrosse brought home the program’s first regular season title and MEC Tournament Championship after going 9-1 in conference play.
  • Football won its third consecutive MEC Championship after going undefeated. Notre Dame beat Charleston in the MEC’s first football championship game.
  • Men’s swimming became back-to-back MEC Champions after accumulating 1,047 points in the GMAC-MEC Championships.
  • Women’s soccer finished the regular season first in the MEC North Division and followed that with the program’s third MEC Tournament Championship.
  • Women’s basketball also won the North Division regular season title after going 13-3 in conference play.

“This has been achieved by all of Falcon Athletics rising to high expectations and exceeding them,” Swain said. “I demand a great deal of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, and they always step up. This is a testament to the hard work and vision we all have for Falcon Athletics.”

Notre Dame’s 101 points and 0.72662 rating was second only to the University of Charleston with 144.5 points and a 0.88110 ranking. The third highest in the conference was West Liberty with 114.5 points at 0.6570.

The MEC’s all-sports rating is determined by a formula that awards points to a school for its regular season finish equal to the number of teams per sport sponsored by the MEC, and then divided by the number of sports offered by the institution. The final rating is a percentage of points acquired against the number of points available (average percentile finish in the standings of each sport sponsored by an institution).
