Notre Dame College is offering graduate credit to those attending a one-day dyslexia conference in Northeast Ohio.

The College’s Office of Professional Development will issue credit for those present at the Northern Ohio Branch of the International Dyslexia Association’s 31st Annual Symposium on Friday, February 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. To qualify for the one graduate credit hour, attendees must submit a two-page reflection paper.

The conference, “Structured Literacy for All,” is appropriate for anyone looking for in-depth understanding of struggling readers and the kinds of support and instruction all students need to be successful. It features multiple sessions on writing, math and reading and a special track for parents of children with learning differences.

Graduate Credit

To gain the additional contact hours required for graduate credit, attendees at the conference need to submit a two-page, double-spaced narrative explaining the educational significance of a specific strategy from the workshop as applied to their personal work environment. They need to identify potential outcomes for usage in the paper, which should include three additional resources in support of the strategy and be submitted in APA paper format.

Additional details for the reflection, including a rubric, are available on the College’s professional development website.

Registration for the graduate credit also is available online. Click on the blue button that says, “click here to register” and select the dyslexia catalog, create an account and then register. In addition to the conference attendance fee, an additional credit hour fee of $260 is required.
