Notre Dame College is now offering an associate’s degree in liberal studies onsite in addition to its online associate’s degree in business management.
Beginning in fall 2019, eligible students at the College who complete 60 credit hours can earn an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies. This new degree program imparts to students a breadth of knowledge in a variety of liberal arts topics, ranging from English to math to public speaking, and prepares them to pursue additional education at the bachelor’s level either at Notre Dame or a transfer institution.
The associate’s degree, which can be earned in as little as two years full time at the College, provides a solid base for future studies in virtually any college discipline and presents students with the general education, communication capabilities and critical-thinking skills needed to work in a variety of fields.
The degree also is an option for students who may be undecided in a college major. Those enrolled in the degree program can select any core course and complete a capstone liberal studies assessment in it as a means to explore future areas for a potential bachelor’s degree. While the associate’s degree does not require an internship, the program does offers students the opportunity to utilize internship work experience in a field of their choosing to fulfill a portion of the 60-credit-load requirement.
Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies credits are drawn from coursework across Notre Dame’s core curriculum areas of engaged responsibility; global learning; written and oral communication fluency; creative, quantitative, literary, philosophical, scientific and theological inquiry; and courses deriving from a students intended bachelor’s degree major, minor or concentrations.
To be awarded an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies at Notre Dame, students who apply and are accepted to the College must:
- Earn a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit
- Complete the Notre Dame core curriculum courses, a total of 30 credits, except for Theology 450 and Philosophy 480
- Earn a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.0
- Attend Notre Dame for at least two semesters
- Complete a minimum of 30 semester credits of coursework at the College
The College also offers an Associates in Arts with a major in business management. The program requires 64 credit hours for completion and is available only online at this time.
