From The President

Dear Friends of Notre Dame College,

Dr. RothI want to thank all of those who have made my 11 years as Notre Dame’s president a journey to remember; for the College, we want to thank those whose generosity has fueled its growth.

The winter issue of Notre Dame Today is a tribute to those who have given in many ways, large and small. From the generosity of the Carmigiano and Mueller families whose combined $3 million in gifts made Normandy and Mueller fields possible, to the liberality of the Parker-Hannifin Foundation in support of Notre Dame’s Nursing program, to three very giving anonymous donations totaling over $1.5 million and to all who have given of their time, talent or treasure—thank you!

In this issue you will read stories about faculty who go “over and above” the call of duty in service to our students, you will read about students who display impressive entrepreneurial and leadership skills and you will read about interdisciplinary programs that challenge students, faculty and staff to new levels of excellence. These are the heroes that make Notre Dame College a special place as it seeks to adapt to the rapidly changing higher education landscape.

Because of you, Notre Dame is a thriving, vibrant institution. Just this fall, the addition of two athletic fields, pulsing with activity—sports, band and color guard—have transformed campus life. With lively, energetic student engagement, these fields’ value goes far beyond mere sports. As a Sister of Notre Dame said, “The College is alive!” And today, we stand at the threshold of major renovations to Regina Hall that will provide much-needed, state-of-the-art spaces for our nursing division and Academic Support Center for Students with Learning Differences. With more than $5 million in gifts in support of athletic fields, nursing, the Academic Support Center and Regina infrastructure, the future is bright.

Because of you Notre Dame resonates with life. During the upcoming months, as my tenure as your president ends, I want to recognize the faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends who have given so much of themselves to the College. People at Notre Dame are dedicated to the College’s mission to provide a values-based education to students who might not otherwise have that opportunity. True, today’s Notre Dame students are different than those who were here 50, 60, 90 years ago, but for 91-plus years the College’s faculty, staff and leadership have remained true to the mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame. It is the sacrifices of so many who believe in this mission that the College has been able to help so many students learn how to not only earn a living, but also to learn how to live a life.

I am very thankful to those who work together every day to make Notre Dame a special place. And I am very grateful to our benefactors who recognize the good we do and honor us with generous financial support.
