Clinicians:

Michael KruegerMichael Krueger is the Director of Instrumental Studies and Music Theory Head at Notre Dame College. At NDC, Michael directs the NDC Wind Symphony and NDC Falcon Marching Band, teaches applied composition lessons, and teaches academic courses in music theory. In 2016, Michael joined the drum major and student leadership staff for Fred J. Miller.

 

Zac Sweeney is a 2010 graduate of Jacksonville State University where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree. Currently, he is in his 8th year as Director of Bands at Glenvar Middle and High Schools in Salem, VA. Mr. Sweeney is the founder and head instructor of the Impact The Outcome Marching Band Leadership Academy. He is the father of his 4-year-old beautiful daughter Lennon and his 1-year-old son Jude.

 

Brett Dawson is a graduate of the College of Wooster where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree with an emphasis in Instrumental Music Education.  He currently attends Capital University and will graduate in 2020 with his Master of Music in Music Education degree; his master’s thesis will study retention and attrition in band programs.  Mr. Dawson is in his fourth year teaching in Vermilion; he is the Director of Bands at Sailorway Middle School, directs the Vermilion High School Symphonic Band and assists with the Sailor Marching Band.  

Festival Information

Friday-Saturday, February 15-16, 2019. 
$50 per student (includes music, meals, t-shirt, and clinician fees)
Housing is not provided.

High School students will have the opportunity to rehearse in an exclusive ensemble with high class conductors, participate in masterclasses with NDC Applied Faculty, and perform in a joint public concert with the NDC Wind Symphony. Students must be nominated for this honor. Instrumental directors should check their students' availability prior to submitting their nomination. The online Honor Band Festival Nomination Form must be filled out by the high school director and submitted by January 25, 2019.

Auditions will be held on the day of the festival. Audition materials will consists of an etude, major scales, and sight-reading. Materials will be emailed in December.

We hope that you’ll be a part of this incredible weekend of music-making!

Audition Materials

Students will be asked to audition on their full range chromatic scale, two major scales (selected from C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, and Db concert), and “Highlander Heaven”. All of “Highlander Heaven” should be prepared. CLICK HERE FOR AUDITION MATERIALS
