Study of representative works of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries: pastoril poetry (Garcilaso de la Vega), mystic poetry (Santa Teresa de Jesús, Juan de la Cruz), picaresque genre (Lazarillo de Tormes), Baroque drama, poetry, and narrative: Lope de Vega, Quevedo, Góngora. Emphasis will be in understanding the cultural, intelectual and historical forces that shaped the literary production. Conducted in Spanish. Prerequisite: SP 315 or demonstrated proficiency.
