This blended course is designed to give students an overview of the issues associated with working with families of disabled children and adults. It will provide students with specific strategies to more effectively develop family/ professional-working partnerships. The course will provide you with an understanding of parental educational rights and responsibilities, legislative issues and methods for professionals and parents/guardians to communicate in person, in writing, by telephone and through technology. This offering also provides an understanding of the dynamics of family relationships between siblings with and without disabilities as well as immediate and extended family members. Stages of acceptance, coping strategies and expectations for the future are covered. This course meets the requirement for Early Intervention Family Dynamics certification.
