Cooperative Education & Internship Program Q & A Session

Please read all three sections below and then go to the question and answer section to complete this section of the requirements.  In the question and answer section you will answer each question and then submit your answers (via e-mail) to the Director of the Cooperative Education Program.  You will receive a confirmation from the Director that you have completed this requirement, normally within five business days from submission.  Once you have received your confirmation you may start the Co-op/Internship application process.  However, if you do not answer the questions correctly, you will be asked to resubmit your answers.  If you do not receive any confirmation within five business days, then you should contact the Director to make sure that she did receive your answers.  You will receive a copy of your answers automatically after you submit them to the Director; you should save your copy of the answers in the event the Director did not receive your submission.

SECTION I: What are the procedures for signing up and for completing all requirements of the Co-op/Internship?

The Co-op/Internship approval process requires that you first complete the question and answer session. Once you have completed this session then you will meet with your faculty advisor to receive the preliminary approval of your Co-op/Internship opportunity and to discuss your learning goals.  You will fill out the application form and have your supervisor from your Co-op/internship fill out the employer section of the form. Make sure you attach the job description to the form then take the form to your faculty advisor for his/her approval.

After your faculty advisor has given preliminary approval of the Co-op/Internship, you will then take the application form to the Director of Cooperative Education (located in the Career Services Office) for final approval.  Once the Director has given her written approval, you may start the Co-op/Internship.

Any hours that you work at the Co-op/Internship prior to receiving all required signatures on the application form will not be counted towards your required hours. You must work forty five (45) hours for each hour of credit you receive for the Co-op/Internship.

You must keep a journal and e-mail the journal to the director every two weeks.  Be sure to include the required information, including the number of hours you worked in the journals.  For the specific information to be included in the journals, go to the form labeled “journal instructions” located in the “forms” section of the Cooperative Education web site.

There is a career related interview that must be completed and included in your portfolio.  This interview must be conducted by you with a professional person in your career interest or major.  For the specific information about this interview process, go to the form labeled “career related interview” located in the “forms” section of the Cooperative Education web site.

Once you have completed your Co-op/Internship, then you will need to complete your portfolio. Make sure to look at the Co-op/Internship checklist form to ensure you are including everything you are required to submit.  This form is located with the other forms contained in the “forms” section of the web site.
