TIFFIN, Ohio – Notre Dame lost to Tiffin Thursday by a final tally of three games to one. The Dragons earned the victory in what was a closely-played match between the two squads. Tiffin won 30-18, 30-22, 26-30, 31-29.

For Notre Dame (1-4), the loss rounds out a 1-4 road trip to start the season. The Royal & Gold return to their roost next Wednesday (Sep. 5), when they play their first home match, against eastside rival John Carroll.

At Tiffin, Hailey Martin (Fr/Euclid, OH) fueled what Head Coach Mark Ridley termed as a more potent offense. Martin led the Falcons in the match with 15 kills and an .833 hitting percentage.

"We want to win," said Ridley. "But our girls played with some fire. They competed, and our offense was more in sync. I was happy to see all that."

As a team, NDC hit .187. Brittany Kelly (So/Warren, OH) led the squad with 50 assists.

In the backcourt, Debbie Beatty (Sr/Massillon, OH) stuffed the stat sheet on what was a milestone evening for her and the program. Beatty notched 37 digs to pass Angela Serpetti for first place on the all-time list for digs in an NDC career. Beatty has 1,872 digs in her three-plus years in blue and gold.

NDC continues its season Wednesday, Sep. 5, when they host JCU at 7:00pm. Wednesday's match is the Falcons' home opener at Muphy Gymnasium.

Notes from the Nest...

Tough times at Tiffin: TU (1-4) has now defeated NDC in back-to-back seasons. The Dragons shut out the Falcons, 3-0, a year ago. 2007 is the first year for Tiffin as a member of the NCAA. The Dragons moved to NCAA Division II after spending nine seasons as a member of the AMC. The Dragons now compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Road kills: Julia Szabo (Sr/Lorain, OH) came into Thursday's match leading the team with a .295 attack percentage. Szabo notched eights kills against four errors in 23 attempts against Tiffin.
