| RWC Box | PPU Box |
PITTSBURGH – Notre Dame swept both ends of a tri-match hosted by Point Park University (PA) Saturday to run their American Mideast Conference (AMC) North Division record to 10-2 on the season. NDC defeated Roberts Wesleyan (NY), 3-0, and Point Park, 3-2, to take sole possession of first place in the North with one week remaining in the regular season. NDC had been tied with Point Park heading into the weekend. With Saturday's victory over the PPU, the Falcons have now defeated the Pioneers in two meetings this season.
Notre Dame (18-12, 10-2) was led offensively Saturday by the freshman tandem of Katie Barbis (Mentor, OH) and Hailey Martin (Euclid, OH), who combined for 61 kills in eight games against the Raiders and Pioneers (Martin 31, Barbis 30). The Falcon frontcourt hit .270 in the afternoon's first match (against RWC), and .297 in the second (against PPU).
Senior libero Debbie Beatty (Massillon, OH) continued her assault on the NDC Volleyball record books with a 63-dig performance over the eight games. Beatty now has a school-record 777 digs on the season, and her 6.9 digs-per-game average ranks 11th in the nation and first in the AMC.
The Falcon have a three-match schedule in the upcoming final week of the regular season. NDC will travel to Oberlin Tuesday (Oct. 30) and then host Carlow (PA) and Houghton (NY) in an AMC North tri-match on Saturday (Nov. 3). If the Falcons maintain a top-three position in the North Division, they will then qualify for the AMC Tournament, to be held Nov. 9-10. |
