NDC captures AMC-North crown

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Volleyball team closed out the regular season with two wins in American Mideast Conference (AMC) North Division play on Saturday. The Falcons hosted a tri-match with Houghton (NY) and Carlow (PA) and improved their regular season record to 21-12 (12-2 AMC-N).
The tri-match sweep seals the Falcons’ first ever AMC-North Division Championship. The Falcons won the North outright with a 12-2 record.
In their first match, the Falcons defeated Carlow in straight sets (30-24, 30-28, 30-20). Debbie Beatty (Sr/Massillon, OH) lead the team in digs with 26 in a strong defensive outing for the Blue & Gold. On the attack, Hailey Martin (Fr/Euclid, OH) tallied 14 kills.
In the match against Houghton, Notre Dame prevailed 3-1 (30-24, 30-20, 25-30, 30-27). Martin lead the Blue & Gold on the attack with 18 kills. Against Houghton, Beatty tallied 34 digs.
"It's gratifying to answer the challenge that these girls were presented with today," said Head Coach Mark Ridley, "Coming into the season, it was definitely one of goals to win the division and today we did just that."
The Falcons sweep Saturday extends their winning streak to five matches. Next week (Nov. 9-10), the Falcons will travel to Mount Vernon, Ohio for the AMC Tournament. NDC will be the No.1 seed in the North.
Notes from the Nest….
Home court advantage: The Falcons closed out their 2007 home schedule with a pair of wins Saturday. NDC finished the season with a 9-1 mark at Murphy Gymnasium.
21 win salute: Notre Dame's 21 wins thus far in 2007 sets a new program record. The Falcons’ previous best of 19 wins was set in 2004.
Super 60: Debbie Beatty’s 60 digs on Saturday gives her 856 for the season. The senior libero from Massillon ranks 11th in the nation with 7.0 digs/game.
Three’s company: NDC's North Division Championship marks the third for NDC athletics this fall. The Falcons' Men’s and Women’s soccer programs also won outright titles in the North Division.
