High-flying Falcons honored by South Euclid
Ball and Wanzo celebrated as NDC standouts

June 24: The Mayor of South Euclid recognized two Notre Dame student-athletes at South Euclid City Hall on Monday evening. Mayor Georgeine Welo honored softball player Anna Ball (Jr/Bellville, OH) and track athlete April Wanzo (Sr/Cleveland, OH) for their accomplishments this past spring.

The Notre Dame student-athletes represent a historic firsts for the College (Ball becoming the College's first-ever NAIA First Team All-American selection) and the completion of a stellar collegiate career (Wanzo earning seven All-American awards).  Both received framed proclamations in Council chambers after the proclamation was read aloud by Councilman Dr. David B. Miller.

“We’re very proud of both these young women,” said NDC Director of Athletics Sue Hlavacek. “They exemplify what we look for in student-athletes, and they uphold the ideals of the College.”

Seven flags over South Euclid
June 3: When senior April Wanzo (Cleveland, OH) earned a pair of fourth place finishes at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Outdoor National Championships last month (May 22-24), she closed out her collegiate athletic career by accomplishing something no other Notre Dame athlete had done.  In fact, in the 38-year history of NDC Athletics, no other student-athlete has come even close to capturing the hardware with which Wanzo now walks away.   ssful season for NDC Track & Field.

Stars earns their stripes
May 24: April Wanzo (Sr/Cleveland, OH) placed fourth in the Women's 400 Meter Dash and anchored the Falcons' 400 Meter Relay, which also placed fourth, as she earned the sixth and seventh All-American awards of her stellar career. Wanzo's performance, along with her mates on the 4x400 relay (Tiffany Patrick, Arvesha Hill, and Cherice May), garnered a 23rd-place finish for the Women's team at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.

The Men's squad, led by an eighth-place finish by Jim Boals (So/North Benton, OH) in the Discus, placed T-57th. The three-day event in St. Louis closes out what was a very successful season for NDC Track & Field.
