Falcons try to best their times in Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio –The Notre Dame Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams traveled to westward on Friday to compete in the Toledo Invitational hosted by the University of Toledo. In the unscored event, the Falcons finished with three Gold medals in the one-day event with a total of seven overall (three Gold, three Silver, one Bronze).
April Wanzo (Sr/Cleveland, OH) earned a Gold medal in the 400 Meter Dash, clocking in at 56.48. The other individual medal of the day was earned by Jim Boals (So/North Benton, OH) in the Discus with a distance of 50.68m (166-03.00).
Rounding out the top spot on the podium was the Men’s 4x100 Meter Relay, which finished in 41.98 seconds.
Three school records were set on Friday by their respective record holders. Boals reset in the Discus with his Gold medal performance. Samantha Murphy (Fr/Columbus OH) also bested herself with a throw of 12.40, just sixth-hundredths better than her previous record. Tiffany Patrick (Fr/Norwalk, OH) also improved her own program record in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 34.24 meters (112-04.00).
The Falcons make one last attempt to qualify for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) Outdoor Championship meet on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10. The Falcon runners will compete at the Cedarville Challenge on Friday. On Saturday, the NDC throwers will travel to Akron for the Campbell/Wright Open hosted by the University of Akron.
