21-medal salute
Men win in Wooster
| Wooster Results |

WOOSTER, Ohio – Notre Dame went split squad Saturday, with the bulk of the men's and women's teams competing in the Wooster Invitational. Throwers traveled to Wheeling, W. Va. to compete in the Bill Van Horne Invitational. Despite the absence of the throwers in Wooster, the NDC Men's team won the event while the Women placed third.

Wooster Invitational
Falcon runners performed well in the meet hosted by the College of Wooster at a chilly Carl Munson Track. The Blue & Gold earned 21 medals, including nine Golds, with each NDC team competing against eight other schools.

The meet featured three sweeps of sorts for Notre Dame. The Falcons won every Men's and Women's Relay. The Men's team won Gold, Silver, and Bronze in the 200 Meter Dash, and the Women's squad did the same in the 400 Meter Dash.

"This was the first invitational team championship in the history of our outdoor program," said NDC Head Coach Joe Magill. "There aren't many scored meets on the collegiate level, but hopefully we can make this a habit whenever we get into one. We are getting better and better at competing, which is what we want as we prepare for our conference championships."

Freshman Andre Robinson (Cleveland, OH) continued his excellent season with fine performances at Wooster. The Martin Luther King High School product blazed the 400 Meter Dash in an NDC record-time of 49.62 seconds and won the event. Robinson also earned Gold in the 200 Meter Dash, just ahead of two other Falcon freshmen, Jason George (Galloway, OH) and Tom McKrill (Mentor, OH), who finished second and third, respectively. Robinson also ran the first leg of the Falcons' Gold-winning 4x400 Meter Relay.

The win for the Men is their second of the season. The Falcons also captured the crown at the Greater Cleveland Championships Feb. 22. The NDC Men won five Gold, three Silvers, and three Bronze medals. They scored 122 team points, beating second-place Wooster (91 points) by 31.

Walsh University won the women's meet, with 197 points. Wooster finished second, at 112. Notre Dame scored 105.

Notre Dame's April Wanzo (Sr/Cleveland, OH) had a superb meet. The five-time All-American picked up individual wins in the 200 and 400 Meter Dashes and then anchored a pair of Gold-winning relays (the 4x100 Meter and 4x400 Meter).

Bill Van Horne Invitational
Senior thrower Landon Huvler (Lexington, OH) highlighted NDC's participation in the meet hosted by Wheeling Jesuit University. Huvler won the Men's Discus for the second consecutive week, with a throw of 142-2. Freshman Tim Robinson (Akron) also performed well - he set a school record (46-7 1/4) in the Men's Shot Put to place third.

For the women, freshman Samantha Murphy (Columbus, OH) set a school record in the Shot Put with a heave of 38-10 1/2. She placed fourth.

NDC heads south again next Saturday, when the team travels to Canton to compete in Malone College's Jack Hazen Open.

Printed results from the Bill Van Horne Invitational unavailable at press time.

NOTES FROM THE NEST...

FAVORITE TRACK: Junior Allie Rendlesham (Jr/Richmond Heights, OH) broke her own NDC record in the 5,000 Meter Run Saturday. Rendlesham ran covered the Carl Munson Track course in 19:28.24, topping the record she set at the same site two years ago (Apr. 1, 2006).

MR. 400: Andre Robinson has now double-dipped at the 400-meter distance. The rookie speedster set NDC's outdoor record in Wooster Saturday with a time of 49.62 seconds. Earlier this season, the Cleveland native set the Falcons' indoor mark, with a time of 50.20 seconds.
