BEREA, Ohio – The NDC Track and Field team earned twin victories Friday in the flagship event of their indoor season, the Greater Cleveland Championships. Both the Men's and Women's squads dominated a field of eight Cleveland-area teams in one of the top team performances in the program's history.

The NDC Men piled up 162.5 points and 13 medals, while the NDC Women scored 159 team points and garnered 12 Top-3 finishes.

A pair of Cleveland products led the way for the Falcons in the Championships, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea. Andre Robinson (Fr/Cleveland, OH) won two Golds and a Silver to pace the men. April Wanzo (Sr/Cleveland, OH) won four Golds to lead the way for the women's squad. Wanzo's performance included breaking two school records (55 Meter Dash, 300 Meter Dash). Her time of 7.15 second in the 55 Meter Dash also qualifies Wanzo for that event at the NAIA National Championships.

The men's team earned seven Gold medals en route to defending as Greater Cleveland champs - they earned the same title in Berea a year ago. Their efforts also included four program records. The Falcons' 4x200 Meter Relay (Swift-Tolliver-McKrill-George) posted an NDC-best 1:32.31 in winning a Gold medal. Randy Street (So/Copley) ran a school-record 16:28.01 in the 5,000 Meter Run. Tyler Boris (Fr/Toledo, OH) posted a program record in the Triple Jump, and Tim Robinson (Fr/Akron, OH) did likewise in the Shot Put. Robinson's toss of 15.48 meters (50-09.50) was a national qualifier and earned him the Gold.

The women's team notched seven school records in their first-ever meet victory. They competed in 18 events on the night and came away with Gold medals in half (nine). In addition to Wanzo, five other athletes earned new NDC bests. Sophomore Cherice May (Eudlid, OH) blazed the Mile Run in 5:11.05 to earn Silver. Allie Rendlesham (Jr/Richmond Heights, OH) garnered Silver in the 5,000 Meter Run with a final time of 19:32.04. Samantha Murphy (Fr/Columbus, OH) set a new Notre Dame mark in the Weight Throw with a throw of 12.68 meters (41-07.25). Freshman Khadiya DeSilva (East Cleveland, OH) earned Gold with a school-record leap of 5.02 meters (16-05.75) in the Long Jump, and junior Angela Giamei (South Euclid, OH) set a new NDC mark in the Triple Jump.

"It was very exciting to see everyone step up to the competition and pull together as a team," said NDC Head Coach Joe Magill. "It's gratifying to see how they support one another and work together toward a common goal."

The Berea event marked the last regular season Indoor event for the Falcons, who are enjoying their finest season to date. Magill and company will cap off their Indoor season at the NAIA Indoor National Championships in two weeks. The Indoor Nationals will be held in Johnson City, Tenn., Mar. 6-8.

NOTES FROM THE NEST...

DeSILVA AND GOLD: Khadiya DeSilva is enjoying an excellent start to her collegiate career. The freshman from Shaw High School has dotted the program's list of top performances all season. On Friday, she earned two individual Gold medals (Long Jump, High Jump) and added a third running second leg of NDC's first-place 4x200 Relay. DeSilva has now posted the NDC Women's program record in both the High Jump and Long Jump in consecutive weeks.

NDC A-NO. 1 IN CLE: Notre Dame has now performed well in two straight years among their Forest City peers. The men have conquered the Greater Cleveland crown two years in a row; the women earned third and first-pace finishes in the same span. Teams competing at the Greater Cleveland Championships Friday include Baldwin-Wallace, Case Western Reserve, Hiram, John Carroll, Mount Union, Oberlin, Ursuline and Wooster.
