Falcons reset books at Findlay Open

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Notre Dame College Men's and Women's Track and Field team competed at the Findlay Open hosted by the University of Findlay on Friday night.
In the unscored event, five qualifying times for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Indoor Championships were made by the Falcons. On the men's side, the 4x400 Meter Relay (Robinson-Kinches-Sheffey-Bruce) clocked in with a time of 3:24.81.
The women were the big winners on Friday with four more National-qualifying times featuring the Blue & Gold. April Wanzo (Sr/Cleveland, OH) had a 57.84 finish in the 400 Meter Run and 25.36 in the 200 Meter Run to earned two more qualifications for Nationals. Joining Wanzo is sophomore Cherice May (Eudlid, OH) who took a second place finish in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:18.28. Rounding out the women's qualifiers was freshman Khadiya DeSilva (East Cleveland, OH) with an unprecedented school record in the High Jump with a height of 5 feet-3 inches who will also make an appearance at Nationals.
In addition to national-qualifying times, six new NDC program records were set in Findlay. Wanzo's performances in the 200 and 400 Meter Runs set new records along with May's 800 Meter Silver Medal finish. Allie Rendlesham (Jr/Richmond Heights, OH) finished fourth in the 3,000 Meter Run with a time of 11:02.07 to put her name in the record books.
In the field events, Samantha Murphy (Fr/Columbus, OH) set a new program record in the Weight Throw with a distance of 38 feet-10.25 inches while Angela Giamei (Jr/Lyndhurst, OH) lept to a 31 foot-2 inch finish in the Triple Jump.
NDC finished with 14 top-three finishes at the competition. The men picked up one Silver and one Bronze in the 4x400 Meter Relay. The women grabbed the remaining 12 medals including three Gold, five Silver and four Bronze.
Notre Dame is slated to compete next at the Greater Cleveland Championships in Berea, Feb. 22, beginning at 5:00pm.

MAGILL'S ELEVEN: Through Friday’s action, eleven NDC athletes have qualified for the NAIA National Indoor Championships, which will be held Mar. 6-8 in Johnson City, Tenn. Ryan Clark (Fr/Novelty, OH), Landon Huvler (Sr/Lexington, OH), Arvesha Hill (So/Euclid, OH,) Cherice May, April Wanzo (Sr/Cleveland, OH), Khadiya DeSilva (Fr/Cleveland, OH) and Tiffany Patrick (Fr/Norwalk, OH) have all qualified. The relay team of Andre Robinson (Fr/Cleveland, OH), Jeremy Kinches (Sr/Richfield, OH), Demar Sheffey (Fr/Euclid, OH) and Brian Bruce (Sr/Cleveland, OH) will also be on hand in Tenn. ... Thus far, Head Coach Joe Magill's squad has qualified in eight events. NDC sent five athletes to compete in six events at last year’s (2007) Indoor Nationals.
