Case closed: Falcons speeding, take fifth
NDC places 5th at CWRU event
Notre Dame Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field teams fared well Saturday in an event hosted by Case Western Reserve University. The Spartan Invitational was a showcase of 11 men's and 12 women's ITF squads and the first scored event of the season for NDC.
The Women's team finished fifth Saturday with several excellent individual performances.
Both the 4x200m and 4x400m relays performed well, each earning silver in NDC record times.
Amanda Corrigan (Sr/Wickliffe, OH) earned a gold medal in the pole vault, blasting her competition by more than 11 inches with a vault of 8-feet-11-3/4 inches.
Jamyra Davis earned second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.58 seconds.
Cherice May also earned a silver with an NDC-record-setting 2:29.11 in the 800m run.
April Wanzo (Jr/Cleveland, OH) just missed on a school record of her own when she earned gold in the 200m dash with a time of 25.59.
In all, the Falcon women earned five medals on the day (two gold, three silver). NDC scored 64 team points. CWRU won the meet, scoring 82 points.
Both ITF teams will return to to the scene of their success when they visit CWRU Saturday, February 2, to compete in the Case Invitational.
