NDC opens the 2007 Indoor Track & Field season
Berea, OH - The Notre Dame Falcons participated in the nonscored Baldwin-Wallace Mid-January Meet on Friday in Berea. Overall, the combined Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field squads garnered 10 top-three finishes and set 11 NDC records. Youth was served for the Falcons, as seven of those new school marks were set by freshmen in their first taste of collegiate ITF action.
Highlighting the performers for the Women’s team was a first-place, NDC-record setting run by April Wanzo in the 500-meter run. Wonzo hit the wire in 1:18.88. The Women’s squad also had two second-place finishers. Maggie Cooper finished second in the shot put with an NDC-record throw of 36-feet-6-3/4-inches And Amanda Corrigan placed second in the pole vault with a height of 9-feet-4-1/4-inches.
Falcon Head Coach Joe Magill indicated that the unscored meet in Berea could be a prelude to good things for a young team.
"The opening meet is a starting point for us," said Magill. "At B-W's event, we were able to learn a lot, and we also had some great successes."
The Men's and Women's ITF squads return to action Saturday, January 27 when they travel to Case-Western Reserve's Spartan Relays.
