South Euclid, Ohio-October 28, 2006 - The Notre Dame College Women’s Swimming and Diving Team Competes in Their First Meet in the History of the College South Euclid, Ohio-October 28, 2006 - The Notre Dame College Women’s Swimming and Diving Team competed at the first meet in the history of the college on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the University of Pittsburgh relay meet. The Women placed third of five teams with 98 points. The teams that participated were the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, Penn State Altoona, Penn State Behrend and Bethany College. “The girls did very well as a team, considering the scoring was combined men’s and women’s”, said first year head coach Mike Gallagher. “We are looking forward to a great first year season.” The Falcons won three relays total. The first relay victory for the Falcons was the 300- yard backstroke relay with team members Tessa Bluntzer (Houston, TX/Clear Lake), Ashley Blaser (Bloomville, OH/Tiffin Columbian), Maggie Lusnia (North Olmsted, OH), and Emily Perkins (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) with a time of 3:27.02. Shannan Fitzgerald (Hewitt, NJ/West Milford TWP), Stephanie Pion (Standish, ME/Bonny Eagle), Samantha Dale (New York, NY/Eleanor Roosevelt), Maggie Lusnia, and Emily Perkins teamed up to win the 300-yard kick board relay. Tiffany Alonzo (Corpus Christi, TX/Tuluso-Midway), Kelly O’Connor (Peoria, AZ/Sunrise Mountain), Shannan Fitzgerald, and Emily Perkins were victorious in the 500 yard crescendo relay with a time of 5:08.97. The Falcons will be in action again on Saturday, November 4th when they compete in their first home and dual meet of the season versus John Carroll University. The meet will begin at 1 PM.
