SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Falcons picked up a pair of division wins Monday, as Notre Dame swept a doubleheader against Malone College at home. NDC won 6-4 in the opener and 10-6 in the nightcap to run their American Mideast Conference (AMC) North Division record to 8-4.
Juniors Lianna Holub (Reminderville, OH) and Anna Ball (Bellville, OH) each banged out four hits to pace the Falcon offense.
Notre Dame (17-9, 8-4) earned a game one victory behind freshman Meredith Harbarger (Akron, OH), who tossed a four-hitter. NDC scored in the first three innings of the game. They hung a three-spot in the second inning; shortstop Stephanie Tartaglione (Jr/Euclid, OH) highlighted the inning with her first home run of the season.
Harbarger went the full seven - she picked up six strikeouts while walking two. The Akron native allowed just one leadoff batter to reach in the game.
In game two, the Falcon offense again came alive in the second frame. NDC batted around in an inning culminating with a three run triple by second baseman Jessica Simmons (So/Garfield Heights, OH) and a two-run homer by catcher Jill Gigliotti (Jr/Medina, OH).
Starter Katie Lapczenski (Sr/Willoughby Hills, OH) went the route for the Blue & Gold. She tossed seven frames, allowing nine hits, eight of which were singles. Lapczenski walked none and fanned four.
