Mike Shiels - Head Coach
5th Season (2007-08)

The 2007 season marks Head Coach Mike Shiels’ fifth season in command of the Notre Dame Women’s Soccer Program. He began his stint with NDC in 2002 as an assistant coach for the men’s program.

Under the direction of Mike Shiels, the Women’s Soccer program has seen a strong turnaround, especially beginning in the 2006 season. Last year saw the Falcons’ first ever post-season appearance in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region IX-X Quarterfinal round. In addition, six Falcons were give post-season recognition by the American Mideast Conference (AMC).

Shiels also has been a coach for the Cleveland Blues Soccer Club since 2003.

As a collegiate player, Shiels attended Mercyhurst College and was a four-year starter for the Lakers from 1994-1998. He earned first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors and was an Academic All-American selection. While a member of the Laker soccer program, the team made two NCAA Division II Final Four appearances and were nationally ranked all four seasons of play.

In addition, Shiels also played one season abroad with the National University of Ireland-Galway where the team competed in the All-Ireland National Championships.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mercyhurst in Anthropology and Archaeology and is currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Education.

Shiels resides in Mentor with his wife Liz and their one-year old son, Aidan.

Tim McArthur - Assistant Coach
3rd Season (2007-08)

McArthur returns for his third season with the NDC Women's Soccer team. Before making the shift to the women's game, McArthur was an assistant for the men's team for four seasons.

A graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College, McArthur was a scholarship soccer player for the Raiders. He earned NAIA All-American honors before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.

During the 2000-01 season, he was a New York West Olympic Development Program coach. Currently, he and his wife, Marcy reside in Euclid, Ohio with their one year-old son, Gavin.

Julie Brickman- Assistant Coach
1st Season (2007-08)

Julie Brickman enters her first season as an assistant coach for the Falcon Women’s Soccer team.

Brickman’s most recent soccer experience was as a midfielder for the Northern Virginia Majestics, a semi-professional women’s team in the United Soccer League.

Brickman is a  2005 graduate of NCAA Division II Mercyhurst College where she was a four-year letter winner as a defender and midfielder. As a freshman and a senior, she was named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 2nd Team. She was a member of a Laker squad that garnered national rankings in 2001 and 2002.

Brickman joins the women’s soccer coaching staff as a student assistant while completing her teaching licensure. She currently resides in Eastlake.
