Shutout victory preserves Falcons' unbeaten record

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Notre Dame defeated Franciscan University of Steubenville Friday by a final score of 3-0. Jill Summers (Fr/Akron, OH), Megan Wydra (Jr/North Royalton, OH), and Caley Prendergast (So/London, ONT) each tallied goals for NDC, which sports an undefeated 3-0-1 record heading into a home match on Saturday, Sep. 8.
For the Falcons, the shutout victory was their third in four contests this season. Goalkeeper Emilie LaMarche (Fr/Rockland, ONT) turned away 12 shots, as the squad continued to play well in what is now the best four-game start in program history.
Franciscan (1-2-0) outshot NDC for the game, 12-9. The Falcons, however, notched their three goals in just four shots on net.
Wydra's goal was her third of the season. The junior from North Royalton heads into Saturday's tilt knotted with Natalie Bernot (Jr/Mentor, OH) for the team lead.
The Falcons are slated to play Saturday in the second of back-to-back matches. The Blue & Gold host St. Francis (IL) in a special 5:00pm start on the College Road campus of Notre Dame.
Notes from the Nest...
Back-to-back II: This weekend, NDC plays back-to-back matches for the second of three times this season. The Falcons earned shutout victories in two consecutive days last week at the Crimson Wave Invitational in Whiting, Ind. Their third and final set of back-to-back tilts is scheduled for next week, when the team travels to Mt. Vernon Nazarene University for the Cougar Classic, Sep. 14-15.
The Ontario Wall: Canadian import Emilie LaMarche posted her third shutout of the season Friday in the Falcons' win over the Barons. The freshman netminder from Rockland, Ontario, now sports a 0.24 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage in the 2007 season.
Passing fancy: Senior Jackie Winkel assisted on Wydra's goal Friday for her first point on the season.
