NDC halts three game losing skid
LYNDHURST, Ohio – The Notre Dame Women’s Soccer team got their first win in four games with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Daemen (NY) on Saturday. The American Mideast Conference (AMC) North Division win puts NDC at 8-3-2 (3-1, AMC-N), while the Wildcats fall to 3-9 (1-3, AMC-N).
Daemen got on the board first just under eight minutes into the first half with a goal from Celia Patarino (Jr/Rochester, NY). The Wildcats were able to hold the lead well into the second half before Kelly Brown (Sr/Parma, OH) sprinted past the Wildcat defender and net the game-tying goal with 11 minutes left in regulation. Brown's goal marks the first goal since Sep. 21 and the Falcons' 2-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan.
With just nine second left in the second half, Brown set up Megan Wydra (Jr/North Royalton) with a cross from the right side of the pitch but the shot hit the cross bar as time expired.
After a stalemate in the first overtime, Nikki Tizzano (Jr/Mentor, OH) broke through the defense to set up another right side cross to Wydra who finally notched the final goal of the day two minutes into the final overtime frame.
Despite the overtime bout, NDC outshot the Wildcats 26-10.
In goal, Emilie LaMarche (Fr/Rockland, ONT) grabbed six saves while Ally Young (Jr/Penfield, NY) had seven for Daemen.
The Falcons continue on the AMC-North circuit on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on Point Park in a men’s and women’s doubleheader slated to begin at 4:00pm.
