PITTSBURGH – Notre Dame defeated Carlow, 7-2, Saturday in an American Mideast Conference (AMC) tilt. The victory for Notre Dame (11-3-2, 5-1 AMC-N) clinches one of the three post-season berths available to AMC North Division squads.
The seven-goal scoring barrage marks a season-high for the Falcons, who have now won four straight. Senior forward Kelly Brown (Parma, OH) scored two goals and added an assist for the Falcons, who outshot the Celtics, 18-7. Natalie Bernot (Jr/Mentor, OH) and Megan Wydra (Jr/North Royalton, OH) each collected a goal and two assists.
Notre Dame's five-goal margin of victory is their largest of the season. The win over last-place Carlow (0-15-1, 0-7) is the Falcons' fourth straight against the Celtics.
NDC's next match is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 23, when they host eastside rival Ursuline. Kickoff is slated for 4:00pm.
Notes from the Nest...
All four one: Notre Dame's four-match winning streak is their longest of the season. The Falcon's 11th victory matches their program-best win total, achieved a year ago when NDC posted an 11-8 record.
Big week for Bernot: Junior forward Natalie Bernot had a big week for NDC. Bernot scored four points Saturday against CU (one goal, two assists). She posted a hat-trick Thursday, scoring all three NDC goals in a 3-0 win at Urbana, and she collected an assist Tuesday in NDC's 1-0 win at Point Park (PA). For the week, Bernot scored four goals and notched three assists, and on the season, she now leads NDC in scoring with 19 points (seven goals, five assists).
Up and away: The Falcons are now 5-1 for the season in road matches, having won three straight. NDC is 3-0-1 in neutral-site matches (8-1-1 in matches played away from home).
