Notre Dame College Downed by Malone College to End Season
Canton, OH-- The Notre Dame College Women’s soccer season came to a bittersweet end yesterday when they traveled to Malone College to take on the Pioneers in the NAIA Region IX-X Quarterfinals. The playoff appearance marked the very first time in NDC Women’s Soccer history but unfortunately the Falcons fell short against the number four seed by a score of 5-0.
Up until the final two minutes of the first half, the Falcons and the Pioneers were nearly equal in shots and neither team seemed to show total domination on the field. Amidst the pouring rain neither team could seem to find the back of the net. With 1:49 remaining in the half Malone’s Julie Herbst was able to break free and send a lobbing shot over the head of freshman goalkeeper Maggie McGraw (Stephen Decatur/Berlin, MD) to garner the game-winning goal.
Unfortunately, the Pioneers never looked back and the Falcons couldn’t quite recover. In the second half, Herbst would go on to score three more goals. Kim Beers scored the Pioneer’s final goal of the game with 11:23 remaining in the second half.
McGraw finished with eight saves on the day. Teammate Elyse Williamson (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville, OH) finished with one save. Freshman Caley Prendergast (Catholic Central/London, Ontario, Canada) and Junior Kelly Brown (Parma/Parma, OH) finished with three shots each.
Notre Dame finished the season with a final record of 11-8.
