URBANA, Ohio – Notre Dame ran their unbeaten streak to seven matchesThursday with a 4-2 victory on the road at Urbana. The Falcons, ranked No. 24 in the nation in the NAIA poll released Wednesday, improved their overall record to 12-2-2 in the American Mideast Conference (AMC) interdivisional match-up. With the win away from South Euclid, NDC ran their 2007 road record to 7-0-1.
The win for the ranked Falcons did not come easy against Urbana (3-9-2). The Falcons would score the match’s first two goals in the first 13 minutes of play only to see that two-goal lead slip away over the course of the next 50 minutes of play.
Greg Carroll (Jr/Dunfermline, Scotland) scored the game’s first goal, his eighth of the season, at 10:33. A little more than two minutes later, teammate Danny Bartulovic (Sr/Gates Mills, OH) followed him into the net with his seventh tally of the season. Jared Miller (Sr/Avon Lake, OH) assisted on the Bartulovic score.
The Blue Knights battled back after trailing 2-0 into the halftime intermission. Two minutes into the second frame, Cody Meier scored his first goal of the season on a cross from Alex Erb. Meier scored again at 60:36, tying the game at 2-2 on a deflected corner.
The match remained knotted at two goals apiece until David McCaig (Sr/Stewarton, Scotland) found nylon on a penalty kick at 87:24. The eventual game-winner was McCaig’s fifth of the season, and he would collect an assist on a Jared Miller goal less than two minutes later.
Notre Dame (12-2-2, 4-0 AMC-N) outshot Urbana 18-7. The Falcons doubled up the Blue Knights in shots on goal, 8-4.
The win at Urbana sends the Falcons into a four-day layoff before their next contest, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 23, when the Falcons are scheduled to host Seton Hill (PA).
