Falcons fly farthest
Double up Eagles in Ashland

Jordan Nick
Nick Jordan scored a goal against Ashland and now has two goals on the season

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio –Notre Dame earned a 4-2 victory in a road contest at Ashland University Wednesday.  The win runs the Falcons’ record to 2-0-1 on the young season.

NDC pounced early when Jared Miller (Sr/Avon Lake, OH) and James Wood (Jr/Barnsley, England) each found the back of the net in the match’s first 15 minutes of play.  Miller’s goal, his first of the season, opened the scoring at the 10:19-mark.  Miller’s score was a six-yard header in front of the Eagles’ goal.

Wood followed suit exactly three minutes later (at 13:19) with a right-side 12-yarder.  It was his second goal of the season.  Both goals were assisted by Stephen O’Brien (Fr/Dublin, Ireland).

For a third straight match, the Notre Dame (2-0-1) backfield played solid defense in front of goalkeeper Craig Pickering (So/Newcastle, England), who went the distance for the win.  The Falcons would allow the Eagles just four shots, two on goal, for the game.

One of those shots connected for the Eagles, when Aaron Favri (Sr/Burbank, OH) found the net for AU at 38:24.

Perhaps the Falcons biggest goal of the night came less than a minute later when Boris Smoljan (Jr/Jajce, Croatia) pressed the NDC advantage back to two with a header on a cross from Greg Carroll (Jr/Dunfermline, Scotland).  That goal (at 39:07) sent the Blue & Gold to halftime with a 3-1 lead, having allowed just one Ashland shot.

He match would remain at 3-1 until midway through the second frame, when Ashland scored at 66:09.

Nick Jordan (Sr/Mentor, OH) then put the Eagles (0-4-0) away with an insurance tally at the 77-minute mark.  Jordan’s second goal of the season, a 10-yarder to the lower right side, capped the scoring for both squads, giving NDC the 4-2 win.

For the match, the Falcons out-shot the Eagles, 19-4.  For the season, the Falcons are out-shooting their opponents by an average of 19.3 to 5.3.  NDC put 10 shots on goal in the Wednesday win at Ashland.

The Falcons will put their undefeated record on the line Sunday, Sep. 9, when they host St. Francis (IL) in their home opener at Korb Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00pm.
