NOTRE DAME COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL WINS AVCA AWARD
South Euclid, OH - 09/02 - Notre Dame College volleyball has been awarded the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Molten Team Academic Award for the 2001-2002 school year.
The AVCA Award honors college and high school student-athletes that maintain excellence in the classroom by achieving a cumulative 3.3 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the year. Notre Dame was one of twelve NAIA institutions out of 331 in the country to be awarded the honor.
"Last year the team set academic goals as well as athletic goals," stated Falcon Head Coach Shelly Miller, "and with hard work and dedication they not only met those goals, but exceeded them. As we build the athletic tradition at Notre Dame, we do not want to lose site of why the athletes are really here - to get an education. This award meant a lot to the team and it is an award we will continue to strive for each and every year."
Members of the 2001-02 team are Sarah Reed (Hudson, OH), Jami Harrill (Lyndhurst, OH), Ellie Robinson (Richwood, OH), Renee Gareau (Saskatchewan, CAN), Maria Delvecchio (N. Jackson, OH), Kristen Gallo (Lisbon, OH), April Sams (Casco, MI), Erin Bayer, Angela Serpetti, Jennifer Hulsemann, and Lindsay Heiden all of Monroe, MI.
