Notre Dame Sprinter Qualifies for NAIA Nationals

South Euclid, OH - February 2003 - Notre Dame freshman sprinter Petra Munroe, in just her second indoor meet has qualified for the NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 55-meter dash in 7.30 seconds.

Munroe, one of two Bahamian runners on the team competed for her Junior National team prior to attending Notre Dame. This weekend she will be competing against top ranked runners at the Kent State University Doug Raymond Invitational where she hopes to meet the qualifying mark in the 200-meter dash and improve upon her 55-meter time.

In just their first season with a track & field program at the school, men's and women's Head Coach Patrick Bindis is "ecstatic to already have a national qualifier so soon in our very young history and working towards qualifying other athletes for the meet".

Munroe's previous qualifying time ranked her 19th in the country, but this past weekends mark should have moved her up to the eighth fastest NAIA time in the country.
