Sprinter Munroe Makes History at National Championship
South Euclid, OH - March 2003 - Freshman sprinter Petra Munroe made history by becoming the first athlete to compete at a national championship in any sport. Petra competed in the NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championship March 8th in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Petra ran to second place in her preliminary heat of the 55-meter dash, automatically qualifying for the semifinal with a time of 7.31 seconds. With a rough start in the semifinals, Petra muscled a time of 7.38 seconds. Petra's efforts were good enough to place her 11th in the country.
Said Head Coach Patrick Bindis, "I am extremely proud of Petra's efforts at the national championship. Only time will tell how she will perform during the outdoor season. It would be great to see if Petra could qualify in more than one event for the national outdoor track & field championship."
