Notre Dame College Inks Four Men's Basketball Players
South Euclid, OH - June 1, 2002 - Coming off an inaugural 2-25 season, the Notre Dame men's basketball team has added four student-athletes to help bolster its roster. Justin Tisdale (6-7), Matt Stoltz (6-4), Ryan Gullatt (6-3) and Steve Destefano (6-3) signed national letters of intent at a ceremony at the College on Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Tisdale, who graduated in 2000, was an All-Western Reserve Conference performer and captain at Brush High School. He attended Mount Union College, but never had the opportunity to play after undergoing ankle surgery.
Gullatt, earned 2nd team Division IV All-Ohio honors at Orange Christian Academy before completing his high school career at Cleveland Central Catholic. He transfers to Notre Dame after one season as a starting shooting guard at Cuyahoga Community College.
Former All-Premier Athletic Conference performer Matt Stoltz from Madison '00 and Steve Destefano from Canton Glenn Oak also signed with the Falcons.
Dave Hilborn (Lake Catholic) a 6-2 point guard, averaged 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists during his freshman campaign - earning American Mideast Conference All-Freshman team Honors as well as an AMC Honorable Mention nod. He also excelled in the classroom with a 3.3 grade point average. Junior Niles Wadley from Saginaw Valley, Michigan posted a 3.9 grade point average earning him AMC All-Conference Scholar-Athlete Honors.
Cumulatively, the 18 man roster (including 14 freshman), from the first men's basketball team at Notre Dame College finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.035.
Hilborn, Wadley and freshman Jeremy Peth (6-10 center from St. Edward) were also named the Falcons first ever tri-captains for the 2002-2003 season.
Notre Dame College, NAIA Division II, is a member of the American Mideast Conference. Chuck Cangelosi (Padua Franciscan '85 and John Carroll University '89) is Notre Dames' head coach.
