NOTRE DAME COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL 2nd at LaROCHE TOURNAMENT

South Euclid, OH - September 2002 - The Notre Dame College volleyball team took home their first trophy of the season by finishing second at the LaRoche College Invitational Volleyball Tournament this past weekend in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Falcons made it to the Championship match by defeating Thiel College 30-26, 30-27, 30-25 and host LaRoche College 30-27, 30-26, and 30-22. In the finals, NDC faced a scrappy Waynesburg College and lost in four games by scores of 17-30, 21-30, 30-20, and 16-30.

Leading the way for the Falcons were All-Tournament Team selections Jennifer Hornacek and Erin Bayer. Hornacek, a senior middle blocker out of Barberton, Ohio and Manchester High School led the team in kills with 34 for the weekend and she also added 33 digs and 14 blocks. Bayer, a senior setter out of Monroe, Michigan and Jefferson High School led the team with 115 assists, 10 blocks, and 37 digs to earn her 2nd All-Tournament nod for the season.

Also contributing in the wins were Angela Serpetti, a junior outside hitter (Jefferson HS, Monroe, MI) with 23 kills and 35 digs and sophomore outside hitter, Sarah Reed (Hudson HS, Hudson, OH) with 27 kills and 46 digs on the weekend. Jenn Hulsemann, a sophomore middle blocker (St. Mary's Catholic Central HS, Monroe, MI) put away 18 kills and had 15 blocks for the Falcons. On the defensive side, Ellie Robinson had 30 digs and Maria Delvecchio picked up 29 in the effort.
