Soccer Scores Two Players of the Week

South Euclid, OH - October 28, 2003 - This week, the Notre Dame College soccer program had two student athletes selected as the News-Herald Local College Players of the Week, the women's team's Lesley Evans and the men's team's Damien Marchione.

Senior midfielder Evans recorded five points in the Falcons 5-0 shutout against Point Park College. The Tipp City, Ohio native scored her first goal at the seventeen-minute mark then got her second goal and one assist in the second half.

Evans is only Notre Dame's second women's soccer player to be recognized by the News-Herald as a Player of the Week. Senior Erica Gaskins was the first, September 30, 2003.

Senior forward Marchione earned the special recognition after fueling the Falcon offense in two games. The St. Thomas Aquinas High School graduate from Canton, Ohio put the game into overtime with his header against Ashland University. Notre Dame lost 2-1.

In a 6-0 rout of American Mideast Conference foe Point Park College, the starter had two goals and one assist. The win helped the men's team cement their second place conference standing and secure a playoff spot for the second year in a row.

Marchione joins teammates Vince Randazzo and William Poveda on the list of this season's News-Herald Players of the Week.
