Poveda and Delvecchio Take Weekly News-Herald Honors
South Euclid, OH - October 14, 2003 - This week, Notre Dame College had two student athletes selected as the News-Herald Local College Players of the Week, soccer's William Poveda and volleyball's Maria Delvecchio. The honors were bestowed based upon the outstanding performances by both players for their respective teams.
Senior forward and Guayaquil, Ecuador native Poveda scored in each of the Falcon's victories this past week as the team improved to 4-1 in the American Mideast Conference (AMC) and secured a playoff spot for the second consecutive year.
So far this season, Poveda is Notre Dame's only player to score in all four conference wins. He also leads the team with 11 points after scoring four goals and having three assists.
As for Delvecchio, the junior setter from North Jackson, Ohio helped power the Falcons to two wins this past week, including their first AMC victory. She recorded 142 assists, 29 digs, 20 kills and four aces.
Delvecchio is ranked seventh in the AMC for her assist per game average of 10.43.
