Falcons Oust CSU in Spring Soccer Season Finale
South Euclid, OH – May 10, 2005 - The Notre Dame College men's soccer team left campus for the year on a positive note, defeating NCAA Division I Cleveland State University 6-1 in the spring season finale game played on the road.
With graduation looming, neither team fielded any seniors from this year's roster, however, the missing fourth-year leadership was made up for with the enthusiasm and hustle of the underclassmen. Junior Vince Randazzo opened the scoring for the Falcons with a header about 25 minutes into the game. Freshman Frank Jonke scored the next goal after 30 minutes and just moments later, fellow freshman David McCaig made it 3-0. In the 50th minute, Jonke got his second score of the afternoon to put Notre Dame ahead 4-0.
Sixty minutes in, Cleveland State pulled one back to reduce the deficit to 4-1, but it's as close as the Vikings would get. With less than 10 minutes remaining, freshman Steve Klick scored the Falcons' fifth on a solo breakaway and was followed by sophomore Kevin McDowall who finished the scoring with little time left, slotting home the sixth and final goal of the game.
Notre Dame will return to action next season in the follow-up to their second American Mideast Conference North Division Championship.
