Hilborn Makes History
South Euclid, OH - December 3, 2004 - The Notre Dame College men's basketball team suffered an 80-70 loss at the hands of NAIA Division II 21st ranked University of Rio Grande, but junior guard Dave Hilborn won his place in Notre Dame College history after scoring the one thousandth point of his career.
Going into the game, the third-year player needed only three points to accomplish the feat and early on, it looked as if the points would be amassed in only two touches for the Lake Catholic High School graduate. Thirty seconds into the game, Hilborn grabbed an offensive rebound and made the putback to put him within one point of his goal. One minute later, he drove to the hoop for a layup, but the highly anticipated score was waved off by the official as a player control foul. Minutes ticked away and Hilborn remained scoreless until with one minute remaining in the first half, point guard Chad Hazard fed Hilborn off a pick and history was made, as he became the first men's player to reach the 1,000 points scored plateau.

"Dave has emerged as a leader on this team," said first-year Head Coach Kevin Bille, "He's also a highly-respected individual who excels in the classroom, not just on the court. He's a model of what we recruit at Notre Dame College and we're pleased an individual such as himself would be the first to reach this milestone."
Hilborn went on to total 16 points and six rebounds for the night.
