Falcons Head to Semifinals

South Euclid, OH - November 10, 2003 - Saturday, November 8, the Notre Dame College men's soccer team hosted an American Mideast Conference playoff game at Charles F. Brush High School against Cedarville University (12-6-2).

Taking on the team who knocked them out of last year's AMC Tournament, Notre Dame got on the board early with a goal by senior Damien Marchione only nine minutes in to the game. Senior William Poveda earned the assist as the Falcon score would be the only one of the night.

The Yellow Jackets had their final opportunity to tie the game just under three minutes when Falcon goalkeeper Christopher Logan came out of the box to defend a shot that would get past him, hitting the left bar of the goal, crossing in front and continuing out of bounds. The close call would be the closest Cedarville would come as Notre Dame would control the ball in the final minutes.

The lone Falcon goal was enough to seal the victory and send Notre Dame (8-9-3) to the Region IX - Regional Semifinals that will be played at the University of Rio Grande Friday, November 14. The Falcons will take on Region IX and NAIA number one ranked team Rio Grande (17-0-1) for a chance to advance to the finals Saturday, November 15. The two teams last met up August 29 of this year with the Redmen having the upper hand 3-0.
