Inaugural Baseball Season Completed at the Jake
South Euclid, OH – May 10, 2005 - It was a milestone year for the Notre Dame College baseball program as it went through its inaugural season with much success. The Falcons finished the year with an overall record of 21-27 and an American Mideast Conference North Division record of 10-14.
Playing the entire year at Mills Field in Strongsville was a dream for most of the players as the facility boasted many components similar to a minor league complex with a manicured field, covered dugouts, professional scoreboard, press box, indoor batting cages and more.
What was even more impressive for the team, was finishing out the season at Jacobs Field.
The Falcons defeated John Carroll University in nine innings by a score of 4-2 at the major league ballpark. NDC was led on the mound by the top member of the pitching staff, junior righthander Matt Kidd, who earned his tenth win of the season after going the distance and striking out nine.
Junior centerfielder Todd Lehmer, who led the AMC in stolen bases, took another base in the final game to end the year with a total of 35. He also led the team in hitting this season with a .405 average. Senior Eric Schmitz, who led the team in RBI, went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the game. He ended the year with 36 runs batted in. Senior John Rhoads and freshman Chris Palagyi also went
2-for-4.
Notre Dame will return the talent from all but three players from this season's roster as the eligibility of Schmitz, Rhoads and Jeff Kovach runs out with the conclusion of this year.
