2004-05 Basketball Schedules Announced

South Euclid, OH – October 15, 2004 - The 2004-05 schedules for the men's and women's basketball teams were announced and both include several notable contests.

On the men's side, the Falcons tipoff the season with two home games, the first against Ohio State Marion Tuesday, Nov. 9 and the second against MaryGrove College Saturday, Nov. 13. Notre Dame will continue with a game on the road Tuesday, Nov. 16 before beginning American Mideast Conference North Division play at Roberts Wesleyan College Tuesday, Nov. 23. The league game is one of two that will occur during the blue and gold's first month of play. The second will be Tuesday, Nov. 30 at Seton Hill University.

The month of December holds three tournaments for the men's squad with a combined six games. The Hoops for Healing Tournament at Walsh University pits the Falcons against Malone College Friday, Dec. 10, then against the tourney host Cavaliers Saturday, Dec. 11. The team will then host the Super 8 Classic, taking on Penn State Beaver and Madonna University December 17 and 18. To close out the month of giving, NDC will head south to the Palm Beach Atlantic University Classic Monday, Dec. 27 and Tuesday, Dec. 28.

Perhaps the most anticipated experience of the season will occur between the final two tournaments when Notre Dame heads to Kent State University to take on the NCAA Division I defending Mid American Conference East Division champions Wednesday, Dec. 22. The match-up against the Golden Flashes is the first of its kind for Notre Dame and is one of the final steps before the remainder of conference play gets underway in January. Five road contests and seven home games will conclude league play mid-February.

"We are definitely excited for this season," said second-year head coach Kevin Bille. "The tournaments and independent games will prepare us for the bulk of conference play with the Kent State game serving as a milestone for the program. The AMC North will be tough as always, but we're looking to stay competitive and earn a first-time trip to the playoffs."

As for the women's team, a first-time playoff bid occured last season, and the Falcons are looking to make a return trip this season. Opening the year with games against NAIA Division I #6 Brescia University and Division II #10 Shawnee State University at the Shawnee Classic Nov. 5 and 6, the Falcons will then return to their home court for a Saturday, Nov. 13 contest against Concordia University.

November 19 and 20 brings the Greater Cleveland Classic to the arena of the blue and gold, featuring day one action against Oberlin College and game two action against either Baldwin-Wallace College or Case Western Reserve University.

The Falcons will then go on the road for the only two AMC North games of the month, Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Roberts Wesleyan and Tuesday, Nov. 30 at Seton Hill, before swinging back into Ohio to host four non-league games in the month of December.

The year's final month also brings a first-ever multi-day trip to Florida for the Falcons as they fly south to the Palm Beach Atlantic Classic December 28 and 29.

The new year will bring the remainder of AMC North play with seven road games and nine home contests.

"We're taking on a real challenge with the Florida trip, two additional tournaments and independent games against several top programs," said fourth-year head coach Dick Deasy, "But we're a veteran team with good chemistry and we'll work hard to be competitive during all aspects of our schedule."
