Falcons catch Alliance standout
Nicole Spehar selects Notre Dame

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Softball program today, announced the signing of Nicole Spehar to a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Letter of Intent to play softball for the Falcons.

Spehar comes to Notre Dame from Alliance, Ohio, where she was a standout catcher for Marlington High School. The four-time letter winner for Head Coach Bill Koch was named First Team All-Northeastern Buckeye Conference (NBC) in 2008, her senior season. Spehar was named Second Team All-NBC as a junior and Honorable Mention All-NBC as a sophomore.

The daughter of Phil and Betty Spehar plans on beginning classes at Notre Dame in the fall.

"I feel comfortable at Notre Dame and I like the atmosphere around campus," said Spehar of her choice. "I'm excited to play for this team and Coach Kyler."

Notre Dame softball went 31-13 and qualified for NAIA Regional Tournament play in 2008. Over the last three seasons, the Falcons have compiled a record of 96-33 (.744).
