Two-way Penn. standout selects NDC
Van Olst inks with Falcons
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Baseball program announced today the signing of Travis Van Olst to a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Letter of Intent to play baseball with the Falcons.
Van Olst comes to College Road from Coal Center, Penn. , where he was a four-year letterman for California Area High School. Van Olst, a 6-foot-6 right-hander, split time at first base and pitcher in his career for the Trojans. He batted .368 with 61 RBIs in his four years. On the mound, Van Olst went a combined 15-4 with a 2.34 ERA.
Van Olst played on Penn. sectional champion Trojan squads in 2006 and 2007. Travis is the son of Terry and Tracey Van Olst. He plans on beginning classes at Notre Dame in the fall. Notre Dame went 22-24 in 2008, the Falcons' fourth season since the program was instituted in 2005.
