Falcons set to kick off 2007 campaign
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Women’s Soccer program released their 2007 schedule today. The Falcons will open their 12th season of competition on Sep. 1, when they travel to Whiting, Indiana to compete in the Crimson Wave Invitational hosted by Calumet College of St. Joseph. The Falcons will meet the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers in the first day of the four-team tournament’s competition.

Notre Dame’s schedule includes 17 matches between Sep. 1 and Oct. 23. NDC is slated to play six (6) matches at home, seven (7) on the road, and four (4) at a neutral site or tournament location. The Falcons play their home matches at Brush High School’s Korb Field in Lyndhurst.

The Falcons open their home schedule on Sep. 5, when they host Shawnee State.

The Royal & Gold begin conference play on Sep. 12, when they visit Malone. NDC will once again compete in the North Division of the 15-member American Mideast Conference (AMC). The Falcons are slated for seven (7) AMC-North competitions this fall.

AMC schools participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). 214 schools from 20 athletic conferences sponsor volleyball in the NAIA. At the end of the regular season, three (3) teams from each AMC division will advance to conference and regional play, which begins in late Oct.

“This is the toughest schedule we’ve played to date,” said Notre Dame Head Coach Mike Shiels. “The AMC-North has gotten better and better each year. We’ve built a schedule to get us ready for that conference test. We can’t afford any lapses in conference play.”

The Falcons’ schedule is highlighted with a tournament match against Berry College (GA) on Sep. 14. The Vikings were 11-7 a year ago and are the winningest program in NAIA history.

NDC will face their top conference foe two (2) weeks later when they visit the Houghton (NY) Highlanders on Sep. 29. Houghton has won five (5) consecutive AMC North crowns.

NDC finished third in the AMC-North a year ago with a 5-2 mark. The Falcons were a program-best 11-8 overall in 2006, earning an appearance in the NAIA Regional Tournament.
