SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Wrestling program announced today the signing of a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Letter of Intent with Mike Mahon of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mahon comes to College Road as a highly-decorated athlete from Cincinnati’s Moeller High School. Mahon won four varsity letters n wrestling at Moeller and placed in the State Wrestling Finals on three occasions. Mahon’s best finish in the state tournament was a third-place finish in his senior season (2006-07). Mahon’s four-year record at Moeller was 132-30. He was 45-6 in 51 bouts as a senior.
“Mike Mahon is a real talent,” said Notre Dame Head Coach Frank Romano. “He really progressed under (Moeller Head Coach) Jeff Gaier, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do at the next level.”
Mahon earned All-City honors in 2006 and 2007 and was an integral part of the Crusaders earning three consecutive league titles (Southwest Ohio Catholic League) from 2005 through 2007.
The incoming Falcon freshman also earned national accolades in Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling and twice placed in the top five in the National Ironman Tournament (2005, 2006).
Mike is the son of Don Mahon and Joan Donnelly. He will begin classes at Notre Dame this fall.
