Wrestling Falcons pin hopes on second season

| Printable 2007-08 Schedule |

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame Wrestling got off the mats in 2006 and earned a 10-6 record in their inaugural 06-07 season. The NDC mat men will look to build on that foundation in year-two, and on Friday the Falcons released their schedule for the 07-08 campaign.

Notre Dame will open its season in style, with a home meet against Ohio State on Sunday, November 4. The home event will be held at Maple Heights High School (Doc Wylie Athletic Facility) to accomodate large crowds expected for the event.

"This is great step for our young program," said Notre Dame Head Coach Frank Romano, a former two-time captain of the Buckeyes' wrestling squad (1969-70). "Our guys are looking forward to this."

The winter grappling slate includes six (6) home meets for the Falcons - two (2) in November and January and one each in December and February. The 07-08 schedule will reprise several tournament competitions that the Falcons particpated in last season - including the National Catholic Champonships, Nov. 10, in Erie, Penn., and the Harris Auto Center Open, Nov. 17, and the Simonson Invitational, Dec. 1, both of which will be held in Ashland.

The schedule for the Blue & Gold includes six (6) tournaments, two (2) triple-dual meets, and six (6) dual meets. The NDC schedule culminates with the NAIA National Qualifying Tournament, Feb. 22, in Lebanon, Tenn.

"We set up a quality schedule, strategically," said Romano. "We're aiming to qualify wrestlers for (NAIA) Nationals, and they can get there with overall individual record or by exceptional placement in a tournament."

Notre Dame will once again participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), along with 32 other wrestling programs nationwide. Last season, five (5) NDC grapplers advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in Feb., with heavyweight Nick Terifaj (Fr/Strongsville, OH) earning All-American status.

Notre Dame College is a co-educational liberal arts institution in South Euclid, Ohio. The Notre Dame Athletics Department sponsors the Falcons' participation in 17 men's and women's sports. The College is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the American Mideast Conference (AMC), which is the largest NAIA conference in the country.
